Wifi Host AP with Slackware Linux

Checking for compatible drivers as defined on http://w1.fi/hostapd/,

lsmod | grep mac80211

Setting up an IP for that AP service,

vi /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1

ifconfig wlan1 10.0.0.1/24 up

/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1

What 802.11 standards is the device able to talk?

lshw -c network | egrep 'product|802.11'

I guess we are choosing g here, but n might also be fine,

vi /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf

interface=wlan1
driver=nl80211

hw_mode=g
channel=1
ssid=as7lab

wpa=2
wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
wpa_pairwise=CCMP
wpa_passphrase=12345678

Setting up the network for that purpose,

vi /etc/sysctl.conf

net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1

sysctl -p

vi /etc/rc.d/rc.local

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE

/etc/rc.d/rc.local

Our DHCP service is setup as such,

subnet ETH0_IP_NET.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
}

subnet 10.0.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
    option domain-name "example.wlan";
    option domain-search "example.wlan";
    option domain-name-servers 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220;
    option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
    option routers 10.0.0.1;
    range 10.0.0.100 10.0.0.199;
}

Ready to go,

tail -n0 -F /var/log/*
pkill dhcpd
dhcpd -q
/etc/rc.d/rc.hostapd stop
/etc/rc.d/rc.hostapd start
